October 27, 2009
All students enrolled in the MIT Student Extended Insurance Plan and all members of the MIT Affiliated Extended Insurance Plan were issued new BCBS ID cards in late September. Because student mailing addresses are not always up to date in the MIT Medical system, especially for new students, many ID cards were returned to BCBS or delivered directly to the MIT Health Plans office.
If you haven’t received your new insurance card in the mail, please stop by the MIT Health Plans office in Room E23-308 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. You’ll be required to show your MIT ID to get your new BCBS ID card.
The new insurance ID cards are important even if you don’t use prescription medications, because MIT’s Blue Cross ID prefix has changed from XXP to DMT. Claims using the old XXP prefix for services rendered on or after September 1, 2009 by outside providers will be rejected by Blue Cross. Students and affiliates should notify their outside providers of their new prefix.
