Sexual Assault Awareness Week
Learn more about how to prevent sexual assault and support survivors through a variety of activities during MITs Sexual Assault Awareness Week from April 5-10, 2009. A sampling of events:
- “Take Back the Night”—Support survivors and show solidarity to the MIT community; tell your own story during the Speak Out. April 6 at 7 p.m., Student Center steps (rain location: Lobby 10).
- “Confronting the Reality of Sexual Violence in the University Community,” a talk by Dr. David Lisak of UMass-Boston. April 7 at noon, Bush Room (10-105).
- “Sticks & Stones: An Introduction to Same-Sex Domestic Violence”—April 8 at 7 p.m., Rainbow Lounge (50-005).
- “Violence in the Media”—an examination of how the media portrays relationship violence and shapes the way we respond to it. April 9 at 7 p.m. in 2-132.
- “How Can I Help? Tools for Supporting Survivors and Preventing Violence at MIT”—April 10 at noon, Student Center private dining rooms 1 and 2 (W20-301).
"It's important to know that sexual violence happens everywhere, including at MIT," said Chad Waxman, co-coordinator of the Program for Violence Prevention and Response in MIT Medical’s Center for Health Promotion and Wellness (CHPW). "This series of events really pulls the community together around this issue."
