Ask the Sexpert!

Got a question about sex or sexuality? MIT Medical now has its own online sex-advice column, “Sexpertise,” which answers questions sent anonymously via an online form or by email to sexpert@mit.edu.

“Sexuality is a normal and healthy part of life, and any question about it—no matter how potentially embarrassing or seemingly scandalous—is a good question,” says “sexpert” Kate McCarthy, program manager for sexual health in the Center for Health Promotion and Wellness at MIT Medical. Questions submitted anonymously will be answered in the Sexpertise column; McCarthy will personally answer questions sent by email and may also post the question and answer online (without any identifying information, of course). You may also schedule a confidential appointment with McCarthy by calling 617-253-4420.

Before joining MIT Medical, McCarthy was a consultant for Planned Parenthood of Massachusetts. Prior to that, she consulted on MTV's “Fight for Your Rights: Protect Yourself” campaign and co-hosted a nationally televised sexual-health forum with John Norris of MTV News. She has traveled all over the U.S. to conduct workshops and give speeches and presentations at conferences on sexual and reproductive health. McCarthy holds a B.A. in journalism from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and an M.A. in human sexuality education from New York University.
