MIT Flu Central - Students

If you are sick

Notifying people

  1. Notify your housemaster, GRT, or RA so they can check in on you.
  2. Call MIT Medical (617-253-4481) to review your symptoms and get advice about self care and when to come in to be seen.
  3. With your permission (not your parent’s), MIT Medical will notify the office of the Dean for Student Life (DSL) of your illness, thereby activating both residential and academic care plans. Check the DSL flu page for the latest information.

Meals
To help you rest and recover, MIT is providing a meal delivery service to all sick students in MIT residences and FSILGs. To be eligible for this service, you must ask MIT Medical to authorize you with Dining Services.

Academics
Do not to go to class if you are ill. The Institute administration understands, however, that students and parents may be concerned about the effect of extended absence on coursework and academic standing. Therefore, MIT is finalizing plans to accommodate any academic issues in the event of widespread outbreak, or for individual students as needed. We will communicate any new guidelines and policies as soon as possible. If you have been in contact with an MIT Medical clinician, in person or by telephone, and been told you have the flu or a flu-like illness, Student Support Services will be notified (with your permission) and will send you an email discussing next steps. If you have any questions please call 617-253-4861.
