Overview

The MIT Traditional Health Plan may be the best insurance you can choose for yourself and your family. The convenience of our medical services, the quality of our physicians, our affiliation with top hospitals in the Boston area, and ease of referrals are only a few of our advantages. And now the MIT Choice Health Plan gives you another option for enjoying all the benefits of choosing a personal care provider (PCP) at MIT Medical, even if your family members stay with outside PCPs.

If you’re a benefits-eligible employee of MIT, Lincoln Laboratory, the Whitehead Institute, Draper Laboratory, or the Broad Institute, we invite you to learn more about our MIT Traditional Health Plan, or the benefits of choosing a PCP at MIT Medical through the MIT Choice Health Plan (for employees of MIT and Lincoln Laboratory only). (The Flexible MIT Health Plan has been discontinued as of January 1, 2011.)

Compare coverage and rates on the MIT Human Resources website. Draper, Whitehead and Broad employees should contact their benefits office for rates.

Retirees under age 65 may be eligible to continue with the same benefits they had while actively working. Speak with your benefits office to determine your coverage eligibility.

• MIT Traditional Health Plan: Provides access to a full range of preventive and diagnostic services at MIT Medical/Cambridge and MIT Medical/Lexington. Nearly all services are covered in full (or with a $10 copay) when provided or directed by your MIT primary care provider, including routine physical exams, treatment of illness and injuries, and admission to an affiliated hospital. The plan is administered in partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.
  
  
• MIT Choice Plan: Under this plan, which is administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, each family member can choose a PCP from MIT Medical or from the extensive Blue Cross Blue Shield of New England network. For example, if you work at MIT or Lincoln Laboratory, you can get your primary care at MIT Medical while your children stay with their pediatrician closer to home and your spouse selects a PCP near his or her workplace. If you choose a PCP at MIT Medical, he or she will coordinate your care. You will have access to Patient Online, and if you have questions, you may contact MIT's Claims and Member Services office.
