We have assembled this overview of the most important things you should know about MIT Medical to help you better understand the resources and benefits available to you and your family.
As a benefits-eligible employee of MIT, you can receive health insurance coverage through the MIT Health Plans. We offer two plans for employees:
1) The Traditional MIT Health Plan (also available to Draper and Whitehead benefits-eligible employees) provides access to a full range of preventive and diagnostic services. Nearly all services are covered in full when provided or directed by your MIT Medical primary care provider, including routine physical exams, treatment of illness and injuries, round-the-clock emergency care, and inpatient care in MIT Medical’s inpatient unit or an affiliated hospital.
2) The Flexible MIT Health Plan (not available to Draper employees) allows you the freedom to choose where you receive your health care. When your MIT Medical care provider supervises your medical care, nearly all services are covered in full, as under the Traditional Plan. In addition, the Flexible Plan provides access to most hospitals and physicians outside the MIT network of affiliated providers without a referral (subject to deductible and coinsurance requirements).
MIT Medical's Pediatrics Service serves children from birth through adolescence. Our dedicated team of primary care providers, nurses, and other staff members works together to provide high-quality medical care that is compassionate and responsive to the individual and family. You must fill out a pediatric history form for each of your children who receives care at MIT Medical. The form is also available in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
With advance notice, MIT Medical can usually arrange for foreign language or sign language interpreters at our Cambridge and Lexington facilities. Some of our care providers speak other languages, and all have access to the Language Line telephone translation service.
Regardless of whether you are enrolled in an MIT health plan, all benefits-eligible faculty members and benefits-eligible employees are eligible for the primary care benefit. This benefit provides MIT faculty members and employees with free 15-minute visits to urgent care or primary care providers, general surgeons, psychiatrists, psychologists, or social workers at MIT Medical. The primary care benefit covers the visit only. You will be billed for any services that are not included as part of the primary care benefit and are not covered by your own health insurance. This may include additional laboratory tests, immunizations, consultations, supplies, or medical procedures.
The Personal Assistance Program provides specialized counseling and referral services to employees who face issues that may affect their work or family lives. MIT Medical’s Mental Health Service administers this program.
The Center for Health Promotion & Wellness offers classes and workshops throughout the year in areas ranging from fitness and yoga to stress management and parenting. You’re also invited to visit the Center’s Multimedia Library and browse the books, videos, and pamphlets on health and wellness topics.
All MIT Medical services, including appointments, tests, diagnoses, and medications, are kept confidential. At MIT Medical, your health information is stored centrally and securely. It cannot be released to anyone without your permission. Our patient rights and privacy policies ensure the confidentiality of all your medical information.
