Nutrition and Fitness

During times of stress and change, exercise and healthy eating habits are often the first things dropped from a busy schedule. But research shows that eating well and exercising can help you stay focused, healthy, and energized. In fact, long-term exercise has been shown to strengthen the brain’s memory and learning capabilities, and to reduce the loss of brain tissue caused by the aging process. In other words, nutrition and fitness are crucial for a healthy body and mind.

MIT Medical provides a variety of resources and services to promote healthier lifestyles, including nutrition consultations, fitness classes, and information. Explore this site to learn about all our offerings and to kick-start your own fitness and nutrition goals.

Nutrition Resources

Eating right can help you stay energized and focused for your days (and nights!) of studying. It can also help you maintain a healthy body weight and protect your immune system.

MIT Medical offers resources to help members of the MIT community learn more about eating healthfully and developing strategies for a healthy life:

A registered dietitian at MIT Medical’s Nutrition Service can help you develop strategies to lose or gain weight healthfully, manage blood pressure, improve blood lipid levels, manage diabetes, or deal with an eating disorder or general eating concerns. Referral required.

Health educators from MIT Medical’s Center for Health Promotion & Wellness provide information and support for making healthy eating choices on campus. Health educators are also available for consultations about general eating and body image goals or concerns. The Center’s services are free to all MIT students, faculty, and staff.

Informational resources on this web site include our Eating Healthy@MIT pamphlet and our Mindful Eating and Nutrition health topic page.
