Simon Lejeune

Simon Lejeune, M.D.
Psychiatrist
Cambridge

"I especially enjoy working with an academic population. Not only am I able to attend to the needs of individuals, but to the needs of a larger community as well."

Simon Lejeune, M.D., is a psychiatrist in MIT Medical's Mental Health Service, treating walk-in patients, providing ongoing care, and working with the larger MIT community to promote good mental health.

Lejeune has a special interest in working with people in distress and is especially interested in the interplay between environmental factors and internal conflict. "It's not easy being a young adult in any context," he notes. "But in a university it can be even more difficult, because there's so much pressure to perform and to decide what to do with the rest of your life."

Outside of work, Lejeune is an avid painter who works in acrylics. He also enjoys hiking, biking, and spending time with his wife and three children.

Evelyne Lo

Evelyne Lo, M.S.N., A.P.R.N., B.C.
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Cambridge

"I want to help students get adjusted to the Institute and to promote a healthy learning environment."

Evelyne Lo, M.S.N., A.P.R.N., B.C., one of two on-call psychiatric nurse practitioners alternating weekends on duty, describes herself as a facilitator—dealing with crisis situations, conducting brief psychiatric evaluations and interventions, helping patients set up follow-up appointments, and, when necessary, arranging hospitalizations or prescribing medication.

Lo gave up a private practice to divide her time between working at MIT and pursuing a law degree. She hopes to apply her psychiatric experience to legal work in health law, malpractice issues, and risk management.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé, reading nonfiction, horseback riding, traveling, and ballet dancing. Lo, who is fluent in Cantonese, also enjoys learning about new cultures and languages.

Kristine Ruzycki

Kristine Ruzycki, A.P.R.N., B.C.
Chief of Nursing Services
Cambridge

"I enjoy working in an academic environment and being part of a group that is making a positive impact on people's health and well-being."

As MIT Medical's new chief of nursing services, Kristine Ruzycki, A.P.R.N., B.C., maintains quality standards in nursing practice and patient advocacy, promotes health education, and provides direct care to members of the MIT community.

Ruzycki comes to MIT Medical from a position as executive director of UMass Memorial Home Health & Hospice in Worcester, director of UMass Memorial Employee Health Service, and a member of the senior management team at UMass Memorial Medical Center, University Campus. "I'm finding many of the same elements here at MIT," she says, "albeit on a smaller scale." Those elements include ensuring easy access to care and proper follow-up procedures. "We're here to take care of patients," she emphasizes. "No matter what kind of health system you have, it's about taking care of people."

Outside of work, Ruzycki enjoys traveling, reading, working crossword puzzles, golfing and spending time with her husband of 28 years.

Laura Wolsko

Laura Wolsko, M.D.
Endocrinologist
Cambridge

"MIT has an educated population of people who want to be active in their own care. They like learning about their conditions, and I enjoy educating patients."

Endocrinologist Laura Wolsko, M.D., treats patients with diabetes, pituitary disorders, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, and certain menstrual disorders. She sees patients at MIT Medical one day a week.

"I do my best to educate patients," she says. "Sometimes there is more than one treatment approach to endocrine problems, and it's important to involve the patient in the decision-making process." Wolsko tries to take what she terms a "team approach," collaborating not only with the patient's primary care physician, but also with nurse practitioners, nutritionists, podiatrists, and/or other specialists to care for each patient.

A Colorado native, Wolsko enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with her husband and 10-month-old son.
